Criminal Justice Reform 2019:
The Good, the Bad and the Work Ahead
Meeting canceled – topic postponed
The Criminal Justice Reform Panel scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14 will be rescheduled.
Circumstances have arisen that would prevent our Executive Director from facilitating the panel discussion with our local judges, the incoming new district attorney and the sheriff.. Her knowledge of criminal justice reform legislation for next session is vital to this discussion.
We will therefore reschedule this important topic as soon as possible.
When: Friday, Sept. 14, 2018
Time: 11:30 am – 1:00 PM
Buffet lunch line begins at 11 AM
Criminal Justice Reform Panel Discussion moderated by JoAnn Fleming with confirmed panelists 114th District Judge Christi Kennedy, County Court-at-Law Judge Jason Ellis, Sheriff Larry Smith and District Attorney-elect Jacob Putman. Criminal Justice Reform is a growing federal and state issue, with folks on the right and the left of the political spectrum weighing in with support. There’s good and bad reform. We expect several CJR bills to be filed for the 2019 Texas Legislative Session. This panel will help us understand the “guardrails” of CJR that must be in place in order to avoid negative effects that have occurred under CJR in other states.
The public is welcome with no cost to attend.
