Get Ready for the Hate

“Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered;

yet we have this consolation with us,

that the harder the conflict,the more glorious the triumph.

What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly:

it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.

Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods;

and it would be strange indeed

if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.”

Thomas Paine

A message from our executive director – JoAnn Fleming…

Fabricated, ginned-up hysteria abounds even on Fox News. Really???  A countdown clock for a government shut-down of “non-essential” services? You would think the sky was falling.

Let’s get one thing straight.  A government shut-down is a false choice selected by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and the Republican sell-outs in the Senate helped him do it.  The Republican House passed a CR that funded everything except funding for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).  They even funded the unconstitutional parts of government that never should have been funded in the first place, and still, Harry Reid and the President say they will not negotiate.  They are the ones who are choosing a shut-down.

What part of government will still function in a shut down?  Social Security checks will still go out.  Unemployment checks will go out as will food subsidies.  Medicare and Medicaid payments will be processed for health services.  Veterans’ hospitals will remain open. The TSA, USDA food inspectors, air traffic controllers, the US Postal Service, the FBI, the Coast Guard, and Border Security will be operational.  Congressional paychecks will be processed (of course!), and the House passed an appropriation to fund the military (if Harry Reid will pass it in the Senate).  Here’s an article about what will and won’t be funded in a shut-down:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/09/30/absolutely-everything-you-need-to-know-about-how-the-government-shutdown-will-work/

Brace for the hate

If you are an authentic, full-fledged member of the Texas grassroots liberty movement, get ready for a rough ride.

The hounds of hell have been unleashed, and they are coming for Ted Cruz and his supporters.  I’ve learned the smears and lies concocted by some of his opponents during the 2012 US Senate race are being resurrected by the far left and establishment Republicans who want Ted Cruz to sit down and shut up.  They are setting up fake blog sites and social media operations to try to destroy Senator Cruz’s reputation.  Why?  They fear him.  My advice is — don’t believe everything you read on the internet and stay focused on two things:  1) your faith in the Sovereign God who balances the universe in His hands; and 2) what you believe about liberty.  These two subjects should be inextricably entwined in your mind, for your rights come from God and not from man.

In the Great Cause of Liberty, there can be no retreat.

The current debate over funding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) goes far beyond which political party stands to gain or lose in the eyes of the media or whose political career will be furthered or damaged in the next election.  To singularly focus on these aspects misses the entire point of the debate!

This debate is about what kind of nation the United States of America will be.  Will we re-forge the underpinnings of individual liberty and the opportunity of economic freedom for all, or will we follow the failed experiments of European socialism?

Make no mistake about it, this is the kind of battle that tests how dedicated you really are to the principles of liberty.

When many in the media are sneering and laughing at Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul and at Representatives Louie Gohmert and Tom Graves, will you keep standing firm?

When establishment Republicans assail the “tea party people” as a bunch of renegade kooks, will you be the first one to give a “Judas kiss” to the principles you said you believed in?

When the social crowd says all this talk about the Constitution is just too “right wing,” will you laugh along with them?

When your FaceBook page, Twitter feed, and e-mail are bombarded with hate messages, will you fold like a cheap tent?

If you hesitated one little bit with the answers to these questions, this is a conversation you should have with yourself now — right now.  We are fast approaching a time when you will be called out on what you believe — on matters far beyond just health care.  Are you ready?  If you don’t know the answer to that question, I suggest you take some time to figure that out.  In the meantime, Grassroots America is standing for liberty. Period.

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men

shall possess the highest seats in Government,

our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

Samuel Adams

Reid Tables Bill to Fund Government, Refuses to Come to Table with Republicans

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) released the following statement regarding Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s decision to block consideration of the House-passed Continuing Resolution to avoid a government shutdown.

“Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had the opportunity this afternoon to avert a government shutdown. Instead, he chose to kill the House’s bill to keep government open, a deliberate act to move towards a government shutdown. This is no surprise. After the House acted Saturday night, Sen. Reid refused to call the Senate back to service, instead leaving senators at home on vacation while a shutdown loomed. And he has apparently advised the President not to meet with House and Senate leaders of both parties. Harry Reid wants a shutdown, because, sadly, Democrats are putting politics above the needs of the American people. The New York Times explained why: because, as the Democrats believe “now is the time to break the power of Tea Party Republicans.”

“This is exactly the kind of DC-based thinking that makes Americans disdain Washington, DC. Democrats need to listen to the people and start working for the millions of Americans who are losing their jobs, wages, and healthcare benefits because of Obamacare. This is not a debate over a government shutdown; it’s a debate about how Obamacare is plaguing our economy. I will continue working to make sure the government stays open and Americans receive the same benefits as giant corporations and Congress under Obamacare. Until then, I hope the American people will continue to speak out against this disastrous, train wreck of a law and make DC listen.”
