Because there are enough of us who believe the United States is still the “Shining City on a Hill” and the last best hope for enduring freedom on this planet, we will continue to fight in several ways:
1. I am investigating filing a citizens’ lawsuit against the federal government on behalf of Grassroots America – We the People. We will take all possible legal action available to protect the Republic and its citizens from the unconstitutional health care legislation passed by Congress. These actions by Congress are the modern day equivalent of the “Intolerable Acts” of 1774. The Democratic Congress and President Barack Obama will no doubt ratchet up this method of tyranny to pursue Cap and Trade, Card Check, and Amnesty for Illegal Aliens. I am investigating all legal options available to stop these intolerable acts, the first option being a possible lawsuit filed on our behalf by the Liberty Institute or the Justice Foundation. [Note: The “Intolerable Acts” of 1774, known to the British as the Coercive Acts, were four exceedingly severe Acts passed in 1774 expressly to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. ]
2. Support Governor Rick Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott who are today moving forward on the Texas legal action against Obamacare. Governor Perry: “Texas leaders will continue to do everything in our power to fight this federal excess and find ways to protect our families, taxpayers and medical providers from this gross federal overreach.” Attorney General Greg Abbott: “The federal health care legislation passed tonight violates the United States Constitution and unconstitutionally infringes upon Texans’ individual liberties. To protect all Texans’ constitutional rights, preserve the constitutional framework intended by our nation’s founders, and defend our state from further infringement by the federal government, the State of Texas and other states will legally challenge the federal health care legislation.”
3. Support a special session of the Texas legislature on nullification, if necessary. A special session may be called IF it is determined that nullification only requires a simple majority vote. If a 2/3 vote is required, there are not enough votes in the Texas House, and maybe not enough in the Texas Senate to pass a nullification resolution. The Texas House has 77 Republicans and 73 Democrats. One hundred votes would be needed if a 2/3 vote is required for nullification. Are there 23 Democrats in the Texas House who would vote for a nullification resolution? The Texas Senate has 19 Republicans and 12 Democrats. If a 2/3 majority vote is required, 21 votes would be required in the Texas Senate to approve nullification. State Representative Berman assured me this morning that research is being conducted to find out what vote is required to pass a nullification resolution.
4. GAWTP goes on offense against AMNESTY! Our first targets will be Senate Republicans. They need to understand this — they will catch intense and unrelenting heat from We the People if they dare try to resurrect amnesty for illegal aliens! Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has already joined with Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer to construct an “immigration reform framework” for consideration by President Obama. According to FoxNews White House Correspondent Major Garrett, “Graham and Schumer met with Obama to discuss the status of comprehensive immigration reform, including providing a means for undocumented workers to gain access to health coverage under consideration in health care reform. Giving undocumented workers in the country now a path to legal status would, in all likelihood, provide access to health insurance services contained in the pending reform bill.” If these undocumented workers are given a “pathway to citizenship” or AMNESTY, they will be covered in ObamaCare. We will hit this head on – stay tuned, Grassroots!
We will not grow weary. We will not give up. We will not flee. Instead, we will execute a strategy to resist these Intolerable Acts of the federal government. May God grant us wisdom, direction, courage, and favor.
