Endorsement criteria/process: The endorsement of a candidate is a serious matter. Grassroots America conducts a thorough job of screening and evaluating candidates. Several of our Board Members have decades of experience in accounting, finance, public administration, public policy development, strategic planning, and candidate vetting. Separating fact from fiction is our goal. We do not endorse based on a narrow scope. We look at the entire record or body of verifiable information. Unsubstantiated rumors and hearsay are rejected.
Candidates often join Grassroots America before the vetting process begins; however, the Board does not consider membership status during its candidate vetting process. Each candidate or job applicant is evaluated based on the criteria listed below.
When running for public office, candidates are asking voters to hire them for a job. Our vetting process is structured to determine which candidate (job applicant) is best suited for the job (public office) under consideration.
The GAWTP Board sets a very high standard for granting endorsements. The Board carefully considers evidence of good character and judgment, qualifications, relevant experience, temperament, background, incumbent voting records, and public record of past actions. In races selected for endorsement, a three-fourths majority vote (7 of 9 board members) in support of a candidate is required for endorsement.
Interview schedule/format: Candidates are being contacted this week with the format arrangements. Questions will not be released to anyone prior to the interview session.
