Message from JoAnn

It’s midnight.  I’ve been up since 5 AM answering e-mails from candidates and activists, writing press releases, talking to the media, booking a US Senate candidate forum, approving newspaper ads, reviewing TV ads, researching issues, designing direct mail pieces for candidates, and answering questions about when we’ll have the rest of the endorsements done.  Things were going well this afternoon until it happened…somebody just had to say it…you know, that unfortunate comment you get when you are up to your armpits in alligators…when there’s too much to do and too little clock…when you’re just praying nobody tries to start something with you…and there it is…a sentence that starts out with…”YOU need to…”

Then along came a witty little treatise from my good friend in the trenches, Ken Emanuelson from the Dallas TEA Party.  This made my day because it is the TRUTH!  Many of you will enjoy it.

Ken Emanuelson 5.8.12

The above five words may come across as ominous, or even despairing. They are, nonetheless, absolutely true

Barely a week goes by that we don’t all come across messages lamenting the state of our culture, our communities, and our nation. They often begin with “Somebody ought to…” or “They really need to…” or “The Tea Party should…

If you’re the type to engage in that sort of lament, here’s a news flash for you:

If you’re waiting for Superman, you can keep waiting.

If you’re looking for Wonder Woman, you can keep looking.

If you’re expecting some tea party elves to show up and take care of everything while you’re sleeping, you’re in for some serious disappointment in the morning.

If your battle plan relies on Spider Man, Batman, unicorns, ewoks, grassroots gnomes or any other mythical creatures to show up and save the day, you need a new battle plan.

The harsh reality is, no superheros or furry aliens are poised to swoop in out of nowhere to clean out corruption, balance the budget or drive out the moneychangers. There is no panacea for our problems. There is no “silver bullet” that will make everything alright.

If our problems are to be solved at all, they will be solved by us, or not at all.

We face daunting problems, to be sure. We draw ever closer to the edge of an abyss, knowing full well that the bridge is out.

Knowing what we know, and seeing what we see, it might be easy to despair–and yet, we do not despair…not yet, at least.

We don’t despair because we yet today have air in our lungs, hearts beating in our chests and strength in our limbs…

…and we know, deep down, that as long as we live, there is still hope, and reason to have faith.

But as the Holy Bible tells us, faith without works is dead. Hope sitting in an easy chair is idle hope.

This world needs heroes now more than ever. This battle desperately needs a cavalry.

We could wish in vain for valkyries who will never arrive, or we can join the heroes who are already on the battlefield–but we must, in any case, never forget these five words:

You can read those five words as a lament, or you can read them as a CHALLENGE–to join everyday heroes in a fight to save our cities, our counties, our states, our nation and our world.

We call upon all who share our love of liberty to stand up and fight for the God-given rights you claim to believe in–and to fight today, tomorrow, and every day, until the battle is won or the last breath departs from our lungs.

There may come a time for apathy or despair, but this is not that time.

Let us not look back on these days with REGRET for what we failed to do, but rather with PRIDE for all that we managed to do with our brief time on this mortal coil.

WHAT we do is up to each of us–but conscience and Providence demand that we take action–and time is wasting.

There are candidates across our land who have stood up and spoken out boldly for the principles we claim to believe in. They need our help. Whatever you’re able to do, they can put your time to good use.

Act. Speak. Walk. Volunteer. Call. Write. Fight.
