Statement for the Public Record
Delivered by Jason Wright on behalf of GAWTP

We begin our overview of the budget by first commending the City for its leadership in making transparency of operations a top priority. Because the City of Tyler abandoned the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset, $22 million stayed in the pockets of families and businesses for their own use. We have been pleased to hear comments from both Mayor Bass and City Manager McDaniel that the city has already started slowing down on spending in order to prepare for the unknown. The City clearly understands that to have the support and goodwill of the taxpayers, it must acknowledge the sacrifices being made in the private sector and be willing to share in the pain, not merely add to it.
