Inside Our Process: Evaluating Challenger Candidates and Incumbent Officeholders

The candidate qualities that matter most aren’t flashy.  They’re not always the ones that candidates talk about the loudest. They’re the traits that actually make honorable governing possible — the ones that ready a leader to navigate pressure, competing interests, and the responsibility of representing real people.

Key Points about our candidate evaluation process:

  • Interviewed one hour minimum (reduced if candidate fails basics or officeholder’s record is consistently exceptional).
  • Analyzed incumbent voting records.
  • Conducted background checks.
  • Examined attack ads and claims from challengers for accuracy and truthfulness.
  • Prioritized job readiness, judiciousness, temperament, proven records, and abilities above emotion, rhetoric, personality clashes, and social media troll wars.
  • Assessed ability to navigate pressure, competing interests, and the responsibility of representing real people to produce measurable results.
  • Evaluated record, worldview capacity, and strength to
    1. make decisions based on principles rather than political convenience;
    2. weigh long term consequences over short term wins;
    3. find common ground without abandoning liberty principles and decency;
    4. prioritize long-term best value for families and liberty over special interests and elected political bullies;
    5. understand the danger of setting precedence when the “good guys” are in power while ignoring the predictable consequences when the “bad guys” weaponize the precedence set;
    6. avoid reckless lapses in judgment and serious moral failures that invite blackmail, compromise, and advance culture rot.
Our endorsements and recommendations are based on this described process – one that is tedious and demands hundreds of hours.

Texas families are worth it.

Liberty is worth it.

Saving Texas is worth it.

You may see it differently.  That’s fine.  Good people disagree with each other.  Our Founders often did!

I will not burn any friendship bridges over candidates.  If anybody leaves a relationship with me or with Grassroots America over an endorsement, they will do all the leaving – not us.

Please prayerfully vote and ask for God’s mercy on our state and nation as darkness gathers its forces.  This we know – the Lord will ultimately prevail!
